Our volunteer display crew has been busy adding new exhibits and updating existing ones. In the “new” category is the one honoring Francis Shields, a B-17 waist gunner during World War II. He enlisted in the Army Air Forces Jan. 7, 1941. Stationed in Constantine, Algeria, Tech. Sgt. Shields flew 50 missions – over Italy, Sardinia, Tunisia and Sicily – …

Flight Simulators

We have two electronic flight simulators available for visitors’ use. Both are computers running Microsoft Flight Simulator programs. The newest setup includes three monitors, giving “pilots” a straight-ahead view and views out left and right windows. This setup includes a yoke, rudder pedals and various other controls. The museum has a professionally done DVD video featuring longtime and charter museum member Jack Wimer. Jack talks about his World War II experiences as a gunner in a Curtiss SB2C Helldiver operating off the carrier USS Wasp.
